DR. Nicola BIO:
Dr. Frederic Nicola is an experienced surgeon specializing in the fields of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. His expertise in disorders of the knee joint and in advanced techniques for cartilage preservation using minimally invasive and FDA approved techniques is unsurpassed.
Dr. Nicola is a graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago. Following his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles, he underwent Fellowship Training at Johns Hopkins University and completed a Trauma Fellowship at the AO Institute in Switzerland.
Dr. Nicola has served as Clinical Chief of Orthopedics as well as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Cedar Sinai Medical Center. He is also a former Chairman of Orthopedics at Century City Hospital. He has been the Team Physician for the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders since 1983, performing game-day, training camp, and NFL Combine duties.
As a member of the National Football League Team Physician Society, Dr. Nicola has worked as Team Physician during two Super Bowls and two Pro Bowls. He is also an experienced Ringside Boxing Physician for the California State Athletic Commission. During his career, he has treated numerous professional football, basketball, and baseball players and is frequently selected to speak for the NFL Physicians and Trainers Society as well as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Dr. Nicola served in the US Navy during Operation Desert Storm and was the Chief of Sports Medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, where he received the Navy and Army Service Medals for surgical treatment and restoration of combat and non-combat related injuries.
Currently, Dr. Nicola is the Director of the Knee and Hip Institute at DISC where he continues to use minimally-invasive as well as the latest FDA approved techniques to treat disorders of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle. His other specialty lies in utilizing the technique of cartilage preservation to prolong the natural life of those joints.
