Qualified Medical Evaluations (QME) Practice Management
Qualified medical evaluators (QMEs) are qualified physicians who are certified by the Division of Workers’ Compensation to examine injured workers to evaluate disability and write med-legal reports. The reports are used to determine an injured worker’s eligibility for workers’ compensation benefits. QMEs include medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy, doctors of chiropractic, dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, psychologists and acupuncturists.
A QME who is on CME’s panel can examine workers assigned by the DWC and attorneys and will be supported by CME throughout the evaluation and reporting process as required by law.
AME
An Agreed Medical Evaluator (AME) is when both parties ‘agree’ on a physician to perform an Independent Medical Evaluation of a workers compensation injury. Whereas an AME may also be a QME, they are not required to be one. An AME is a physician selected by both parties, the applicant’s attorney and the claims administrator, to perform an Agreed Medical Evaluation.
IME
An Independent Medical Evaluation (IME) utilizes a third party independent medical professional to issue an unbiased opinion in the evaluation of an injured party.
CME works with many attorneys and insurance carriers who regularly contact us seeking medical experts for IME cases. Our physicians rely on CME to handle all the administrative details involved with doing IME work, including:
- Arranging consultations between physicians and attorneys
- Scheduling examinations
- Report writing and reviews
- Legal calendaring (depositions and trial)
