BIO
Arezou Yaghoubian MD, QME, received her medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. After completing medical school, she did her general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she won the Chief Resident of the Year and Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Yagoubian then completed a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery, followed by an additional fellowship in orthopedic hand and microsurgery, both at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Yaghoubian’s commitment to teaching has led her to accept a position as a clinical instructor at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center’s Department of Plastic Surgery. As part of her appointment, her practice serves as a training site for UCLA Hand Fellows.
A board-certified surgeon, Dr. Yaghoubian won the prestigious Super Doctor’s Rising Star designation in 2017. Her peers in plastic surgery nominated her as part of a rigorous process that identifies outstanding physicians. Dr. Yaghoubian is an active surgery researcher, advancing her profession. She has co-authored almost 50 manuscripts and book chapters. Her research interests are broad and deep, ranging from comparing forms of gastric bypass for weight loss to determine their effectiveness to an analysis of racial and ethnic disparities in children with bike accidents.
Proficient in three languages — English, Farsi, and Spanish — Dr. Yaghoubian is passionate about helping others without regular access to needed reconstructive surgery. In 2014, she flew to Guatemala as part of a surgical mission team to repair cleft lips and palates.
